Bust of Shota Rustaveli unveiled in the Central Park of Bucharest city
As part of a series of events dedicated to Georgia's Independence Day and the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Romania, a bust of the great Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli was solemnly opened in the King Mihai I Park (former Herastrau Park) of Bucharest.
Mr. Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, Mr. Nicusor Dan, the General Mayor of Bucharest, Mr. Nikoloz Nikolozishvili, the Georgian Ambassador to Romania, and Mr. Julian Fota, the State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the audience. The ambassador presented to the audience written speech of the President of Georgia, Mrs. Salome Zourabishvili, regarding this remarkable day.
The speakers focused on Shota Rustaveli's epic poem "The Knight in the Panther's Skin” as a prominent sample in the world literature, close cultural and people-to-people ties between Georgia and Romania, and the importance of this day in the history of relations between the two countries.
Within the framework of the ceremony, Patriarch Archbishop Varlaam, together with other clerics, blessed the bust of the Georgian poet.
The solemn event was attended by the Parliamentary delegation of Georgia, representatives of the "Friendship Center of Georgia and the Republic of Moldova" and diplomatic corps accredited in Romania, and a wide audience.
