Official visit of the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili to Romania

On October 11, the President of Georgia, H.E. Mrs. Salome Zourabichvili, paid an official visit to Romania. The official delegation from Georgia was composed of Mr. Teimuraz Janjalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mrs. Teona Akubardia, member of the friendship group with the Romanian Parliament, and members of the administration of the President of Georgia.

Within the framework of the visit, the President of Georgia held a meeting with his Romanian counterpart, H.E. Mr. Klaus Iohannis. Presidents discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and signed a declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries. After face-to-face and extended meetings, presidents held a joint press conference and answered journalist's questions. 

On the same day, the President of Georgia met with the Prime Minister of Romania, Mr. Nicolae Ciuca, and discussed with him the topics of deepening the relations between Georgia and Romania. Close cooperation between two states, importance of signing the declaration on strategic partnership, and the implementation of joint projects were positively noted.

The President of Georgia was also hosted by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and the Acting Chairman of the Romanian Senate, Alina Gorghiu. At the meeting held in the Romanian legislative body, Romania's unwavering support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration was once again underlined.

President Zourabichvili also visited the Anthim Monastery in Bucharest and handed over a hand drawn icon of St. Nino as a gift.

On October 12, Salome Zourabichvili visited Constanta city and held a meeting with the local authorities, the management of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, and the administration of the port of Constanta. The development of economic cooperation between Romania and Georgia and the establishment of a regular ferryboat line between the ports of the two countries were discussed.
